Welcome to our website
walks

We are a local group of the Ramblers based in the Wear Valley, County Durham in the North East of England. David Bellamy, who lives in the Wear Valley, describes our area as the last great wilderness of England. A long distance path following the river Wear has been established for people wanting a long walk. The Weardale Way is 74 miles long and usually takes 7 or 8 days. It starts at Wearhead and ends at the North Sea at Sunderland. Our group consists of 89 members and our Officials and Committee meet regularly to deal with any problems and to organise a regular programme of walks which range from 5-13 miles in areas from the Lake District to the Yorkshire Dales and local walks in the Wear Valley. New members are always welcome and anyone intending to join our walks should meet at the places stated. Please contact the leader if you wish to join the walk at its starting point or require transport or further information. You are quite welcome to walk with us for some time before you will be asked if you would like to join. More details on membership page.
